From a very early age, artisan Thomas Baurley started learning lapidary as a enhancement to his rock collecting skills. He had a diamond rock saw, grinder, polisher, tumbler, and various other tools he used to make jewelry, cabachons, boa ties, and rings. He also learned silver smithing from the local rock shop.
