Pirate Relief

The Adventure begins:

Imagined by Captain Leaf McGowan in May 2010 as a dream, the ghostly ship didn’t manifest into conceptualization until June 2010 as he was to embark across the “Great Pond” to England. He posted the concept on Facebook and expected to be laughed at but was greatly supported and encouraged to have the ship set sail. Investigations into the idea, networking, and fundraising took effect immediately as a crew of over 20 committed individuals enthusiastically climbed on board. At this stage, our group is planting the seed to make the project a reality. Our crew and vision  has a facebook group and a web site with several projects being set into motion.

Who We Are & What We Do:

Pirate Relief is a roving band of pirates, gypsies, artists, musicians, environmentalists, and scientists who are striving to bring together a fleet of tall sailing ships to sail the seven seas to ports around the world – sharing art, music, drama, theater, folklore, performance, storytelling, history, & culture to those they encounter. We are setting out to share the wealth of the Living Myth. We are targeting our concerns by embracing ecological and sustainability ideas for a new approach to living, caring for the environment, mobility, and keeping culture, arts, & sciences alive. “Through Storytelling and the Arts – The Living Myth shall live on! “

Making It A Reality – “The Vision”:

We seek to preserve history, culture, and folkways by re-enactment of myth, storytelling of legend, recording of history, and preservation of lore by dissemination of knowledge. Through our upcoming publications, books, and web site blog posts we hope to keep this history alive and adventurous.

From Disaster Relief to Comic Relief, we plan to make a life of it on the sea. Our roving bands of talent may bounce back and forth from land to sea to uplift spirit, help in time of need, spread ecological awareness/assistance, and historic preservation.

We take inspiration by the image of the adventurous Pirate who was taking on the Seven Seas, sailing the rough storms and battling the difficulty of a bohemian life with the romantic idea of the Pirate who was free, self-sustainable, adventurous, and democratic, not the cut-throat thief of one. The iconography of the romantic view of the pirate, gypsy, and nomad in the modern era gives us a mythological and fantastical outlook to tell a tale of the Living Myth …

Currently Pirate Relief is in development and fundraising mode. We are in organization mode. We need volunteers, crew, and artisans. Our dreams are going to be expensive and time consuming. We need your help. Through Donations, volunteer support, and advertising we hope to make this a reality. We ask of you to assist us in any way possible to make this vision a reality.

We are currently just a organization with no income flow, a club of enthusiasts with great vision. We attempted too quickly to set up a business and non-profit, and never making anything of it, realized we need to go back to the drawing board.

Right now, this is a dream we are breathing into creation. The seed is being planted. How can you help? Get involved. Donate. Spread the World. Help Raise Funds to seed us. We’ve already got our eyes on a few vessels, our Captains are looking into getting educated on sailing and ship operations, and we’re looking for a force that are interested in the project: Fire Spinners? Artists? Entertainers? Ecologists? Historians? Cooks? Crafts-People? Social Workers? Doctors without Borders? Guards? Crew Mates? Nurses without Borders? Have we left anyone out?

Help us Make this Dream A Reality. By 2020 – We are aiming to raise 2 Million to cover the purchase of the first ship, the supplies, and equipment we’ll need to embark upon our first journey. If we can do this before 2020 – We’ll set sail as soon as we can.
