Beyond is a happy hour party every Wednesday night from 6-11 pm in the Upstairs lounge above Skewers and Cafe Luna at 1633 P St NW. Here, various DJ’s from the east coast come to play a wide variety of electronic and techno / house music from dubstep to downtempo, underground hip-hop, indie rock, and reggae. The residents are Dan Amitai, Ivan Khilko, and Adrian Parsons. $2 drink and appetizer specials including Moroccan tapas. The space is artistically decorated in Middle Eastern fashion and is a small ‘comfy’ space. Attend early to guarantee seating. Not much space for standing around if you don’t have a chair. Beyond features $2 beers, $3 Pomegranate Martinis and $4 Ketel One martinis until 8PM, with drink prices going up by just a dollar after that. There is also a special $2 tapas menu from Skewers all night long, as well as that restaurant’s full menu; extensive vegetarian options are available. I enjoyed the Happy hour, met some nice folks, and great music. Free demo cds were given out the night I attended. 2/20/2008. Rating: 3 stars out of 5.
