The Kennedy Homestead ~ * http://www.kennedyhomestead.com/ * Dunganstown, New Ross, Wexford, Ireland * ~
Nestled in the woods, down an enchanting tree and stone-lined avenue / country road is the Kennedy Homestead, the birthplace of President John F. Kennedy’s great-grandfather Patrick Kennedy and sits as a historic property to commemorate the generations of the Kennedy dynasty. Here his descendants still farm. Patrick Kennedy left Ireland during the Great Famine, leaving this homestead behind, for the port of New Ross in 1848 landing in the United States where his descendants settled in the new America that led to the presidency of the family line. Today there stands a unique cultural museum and visitor centre based on the Kennedy family heritage. A gift shop, audio-visual display, picnic area, rest facilities, and a parking lot are offered. We did not get a chance to go in, and only visited the property from the roadside as it was closed during our visit on August 1st, 2012. Looks interesting for any history buff interested in that era.
