Fear the Walking Dead

Fear the Walking Dead
~ TV-MA | 44min | Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi | TV Series (2015– ) | Creators: Dave Erickson, Robert Kirkman; Starring: Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Cliff Curtis, and many more – see IMDB for details. ~

Not as good as “The Walking Dead” this spin-off alternate tale that weaves in and out of the original series, is a fantastic simultaneous story. It starts off in Los Angeles as bands of families trying to survive the Zombie apocalypse. Great tales with up/down captivation through the series. Running alongside the time line of Walking Dead, the family has to test their ethics as they travel land, sea, and into Mexico. Loss, horror, death, dysfunction, and survival. A fun action packed thriller.

A modern living myth of modern day Lucifer who goes by his true name as Lucifer Morningstar who escapes Hell and decides to try out living amongst the human race. Angry at his father God, constantly in struggle and battle with their relationship, he cuts off his wings and tries to live a luxurious “normal” life. But too difficult to hide his powers … he teams up with Chloe, a police agent that he becomes a consultant for in solving crimes and murders. He falls deeply in love with her and struggles with the vulnerability that love causes. A love story of supernatural power … the plot, the tales, and the series is phenomenal – my favorite comedy currently out. Must see.

Supergirl – the TV series (2015-present)

Supergirl
~ TV-PG | 43min | Action, Adventure, Drama | TV Series (2015– ) | Creators: Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg; Starring: Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, and many more – see IMDB for details. ~

A spin-off tale of Kryptonian survival, just as when Superman (Kal-El) is expelled to safety from the destruction of Krypton, so too was his cousin Kara – who was sent to protect him. They were separated as Kara accidentally gets delayed in the Phantom Zone and is unable to watch over Kal-El. She finally arrives and is adopted in a similar sense as young Clark Kent. She grows up as Kara Danvers and slowly discovers her abilities, purpose, and history. She is exposed to the Department of Extra-Normal Operations and recruited to fight alien invasions, crime, and attacks – as another champion super heroe saving the planet. A great super-heroe story in epic mirroring of Superman from a femal perspective and heroine tale. I am loving the series.

Its a tale of the future when Earth was destroyed by an blind alien race with extreme sensitive hearing that predates on humans and other animals. The creatures hunted by sound, even the minute pin drop sound could attract them. The only way humans could survive was to live in extreme silence. The film follows a husband and wife with their children trying to keep their existence named the Abbots. They even struggle through a pregnancy and raising a crying baby. The road to survive is extreme, and challenging. Edge of your seat action ad suspense, intriguing plot, great characters and sound play. I really enjoyed this film.

I Zombie series

~ TV-14 | 42min | Comedy, Crime, Drama | TV Series (2015–present(2018) ) | Creators: Diane Ruggiero, Rob Thomas; Starring: Rose McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, and many more – see IMDB ~

It is a tale about a girl named Liv Moore, who was a medical student that became infected by the zombie plague that was in outbreak in her community. As she deals with life as a zombie, she discovers if she eats the brains of an individual, she can have flash-backs of their life, absorb their feelings and personality, and can figure out how they died. She assists detective Clive Babineaux of the police department with solving murders. Its a great comedy and spin on zombie theme popularity that has struck the world this decade with great plots, story-line, and characters. One of my favorite shows.

Another re-telling of a similar tale like Bewitched, Practical Magic, and other such tales of the local town Witch and her play of magic, community, love, and family. This series presents a modern living myth of Cassie Nightingale and her daughter Grace living in a town that she has much influence over. She runs the local curiosity shop, bed n’ breakfast, and manor. She’s great friends with the Mayor and her family deep roots in the founding of the town. She falls for her next door neighbor, a single father Doctor named Sam Radford with his son both of whom become bewitched by the Mother and daughter witchery. Great show, down to heart and hearth … warm and charming. Great series. Currently on-going (2018).

Siren (2013:TV-MA)

Siren
1h 33min | Drama | 26 October 2013 (USA) | TV-MA
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2083332/
~ Director: Jesse Peyronel; Writer: Jesse Peyronel (screenplay); Starring: Vinessa Shaw, Robert Kazinsky, Bess Wohl and more. See imdb for details. ~

A fantastic tale about a women with a medical “siren-like” condition where no human or animal can resist her pheromones, driving them crazy enough to take their own lives. This has forced her since puberty to live reclusively on an estate in the middle of nowhere for the rest of her life. She meets a man who has a disorder that doesn’t allow him to smell, making him resistant against hers. He is the first man she can trust, or can she? I thought the screenplay was grand, story line interesting, and production well done. Great plot. Watched on Amazon prime. 4/7/18

Malificent (PG: 2014)

I’m really digging the fact that Walt Disney and other major film companies are starting to get on track with depicting fairy tales with “real faeries” as is becoming the artsy trend these days in media, film, and music. They were golden with how they manifested Snow White and the Huntsman I didn’t think the film wizards could do any better with the classics – wrong was I. “Malificent” is in that tradition, embedded deep into the faerie realms and the struggles between humans and the fae, following true folklore about faeries and iron, and much of historical folklore as accurate as they could go. It is the classic retelling (and most probable more authentic of the Sleeping Beauty myth if there was one in history). A young powerful faerie girl well respected in Faerieland as “Malificent” goes and befriends a young human mortal who stumbled into the protected realms. They begin a long childhood friendship which leads up to the guise of “true love” only to meet the ever-told fate between fae and humans that humans will always cross the fae. This throws Malificent into a darkness after she loses her wings and seeks revenge on the wrongdoer. She curses his child into a “sleeping beauty” enchantment that not even she could break, only to be broken by a kiss of true love – which she believed did not exist. As time passes she falls for the young cursed one only to despair that she couldn’t break the curse she cast. Battles between the humans and the magical folk build up high action and turmoil leaving you on the edge of your seat. Ents, Dryads, Pixies, Elves, Dragons, and other magical folk animate your imagination as malificent finds her way back to the fate of her beautiful wings. Just how I would have imagined “Sleeping Beauty”. Rating: 5 stars out of 5 [rating:5]

Carrie 2013

carrie2013

Carrie (2013) ~ Rated R.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1939659/ ** Drama/Horror * Released: October 18, 2013 * Director: Kimberly Peirce. Writers: Lawrence D. Cohen, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Starring: Julianne Moore as Margaret White; Chloë Grace Moretz as Carrie White; Gabriella Wilde as Sue Snell; Portia Doubleday as Chris Hargensen; Alex Russell as Billy Nolan; Zoë Belkin as Tina; Ansel Elgort as Tommy Ross; Samantha Weinstein as Heather, and may more. *

The Classic Stephen King horror story about a shy Fundamentalist Christian raised girl who was never taught about puberty, humiliated over her period in the girl’s gym locker room, at the same time when discovering her telekinetic powers. She’s pushed too far by the school bullies and unleashes a fire storm of revenge and destruction much to the horror and shame of her teacher/counselor and mother. It’s hard to beat the first film, and the second re-make was fantastic in my eyes, but this 3rd remake still held its own charm and excitement. As I’m a big fan of the supernatural, it was well done. The 1974 novel by Stephen King of course is the best version of them all as is all of his books compared to the movies made about them. Chloë Grace Moretz playing Carrie is no Sissie Spacek comparison, but in her own right did a magnificent and sexy role. I’m still torn between the characters of the first film and this third for the others outside of Carrie, but Julianne Moore as Carrie’s mom was a fabulous choice as she’s always has been a favorite actress of mine. The prayer closet was well done but some of the school scenes were lacking luster. I did enjoy the fact Carrie delved deeply into researching her powers rather than stumbling around cluelessly with them. I didn’t care for the delivery scene for the opening, but the pregnancy at the end was a intriguing twist. – [Rating:4] Rating 4 stars out of 5.
